Beaches
Beaches in Santorini: Typical characteristics are long stretches of black sand and small black pebbles due to the volcanic nature of the island.
Some have red or white sand with pebbles. Famous beaches are Perissa beach, Perivolos beach, Kamari beach, Monolithos Red beach.
Monolithos:Â Located at the eastern part of the island, long enough, with dark sand, low level clear water (kids friendly), the beach of Monolithos is more quiet than the near by Kamari, but the landscape is the same beautiful. In fact it is the same beach starting from Perissa at the South and ending to Monolithos.
The beach offers some accomodation in the village and meals and snacks at the beach.
Kamari Santorini: The famous Kamari beach of Santorini situated ten kilometers southeast of Fira, on the exact opposite side of the island from Perissa. The general landscape is much similar to Perissa: an impressive long and inviting black sandy beach, characterized by an enormous rock called Mesa Vouno that rises from the sea. The area offers a great landscape, especially at night, when the rock is lighted.
Perissa Beach:Â Perissa situated 15 km southeast of Fira. It is a very tourist-crowded village and has an impressively long black sandy beach. ItÂ’s most noticeable feature is the Mesa Vouno, an enormous rock rising from the sea. This area of Santorini offers a great night view when the lights of the rock are lit.
Red beach Santorini:Â Red beach, one of the most famous and beautiful of the beaches of Santorini. It is located near the ancient site of Akrotiri. Because it is smallish, the red beach gets quite busy. A number of people come onto the headland just to admire this beach and never make it down to the hot sand. The reason why it attracts so many people is because of the slabs of red and black volcanic rocks behind it.
